Wellness Wednesday: Steamy Salt Bath!

Two friends on separate occasions this week have shared about taking time for self care. So goooood! And I took it as a prompt: don’t forget to self care!

Self care is so crucial for physical, emotional and mental well-being that making time for it should be a top priority.

My absolute hands down no question about it self care activity is a salt bath and it has been weeks since I made time for it. Last night I made it happen!

My go-to bath recipe is this:

  • 2 cups of sea salt
  • 1 tbsp of bentonite clay
  • Essential oil of choice
  • Flowers readily available

I make the water as hot as I can take it and soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. Sea salt and bentonite have a detoxing effect so if you try this drink a lot of water during and after!

What nourishes you? I hope you make time for that this week!

Intention Tuesday: I AM…

Connecting to a single word and putting that word in an I AM statement can be a powerful means for shifting your mindset and propelling yourself forward into that thing you are becoming!

We are each on our own journey, but here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • I AM grateful
  • I AM strong
  • I AM powerful
  • I AM joyful
  • I AM focused

In Sanskrit it’s called a sankalpa. I’m currently making my way through “100 Days to Brave” by Annie Downs, and so my sankalpa on repeat at the moment is: I AM brave!

What are you manifesting in your life right now, what is the thing you are becoming? Try turning it into an I AM statement and coming back to it throughout the day. You can post it on your door, make it your iphone screensaver, or post it on a little note at the top of your yoga mat during practice. And try a little breath work with it. Before you get out of bed, on your yoga mat, at your desk, over coffee (so many good opportunities to breath 😌): on the inhale “I AM”, on the exhale <<insert your intention>>.

Essential Monday: Lavender

If you are new to essential oils, Lavender is a great place to start! There are so many published benefits of this fresh floral scent, but feeling really is believing…so try it! I recommend it for right before bed or after a long stressful day of work, you can think of it as the ultimate unwind and calming essential oil.

If you join my class, this is my preferred essential oil for savasana and that’s an easy place to start. If you pick up a bottle, I recommend a little before bed with one of these methods: a couple of drops to a bath, a few drops in a diffuser, or a dab at your wrists and at the bottom of your feet.

This is also my go-to for overnight travel/red eye flights, I carry it with my other flight essentails (think: neck pillow, face wipe, moisurizer & kindle).

Enjoy the instant calming effect!

Weekends are for Yoga!

What started as a way to share yoga within my community in midtown manhattan, is now going on its third year. If you live in Tudor City message me to be part of our yoga community, there are so many ways to participate! I teach a Saturday and Sunday yoga class at the Manor and the Windsor, respectively. During the month of September, Tudor City Greens hosts yoga in the North Park every weekend. And we have some neighboring studios and access to free yoga nearby that are worth exploring!
